Dogecoin and alt-coin tipping apps approved on Facebook

Cryptocurrency culture has made more progress into the realm of social networking thanks to two new tipping apps recently approved by Facebook. The Doge Tipping App and the Multicoin Tipping App provide simple tipping functionality much like that seen on Reddit and Twitter. Late last month, QuickCoin introduced a tipping-friendly bitcoin wallet for Facebook.

The two new tipping apps originated in the Dogecoin community, and are strictly focused on alt-coins. While the Doge Tipping App is limited to Dogecoins, the Multicoin variation includes less-known cryptocurrencies such as Digibytes, Einsteinium, FedoraCoin, Mintcoin, Reddcoin, Quark, Worldcoin, Vertcoin and TrollCoin. The apps do not provide functionality to purchase these coins, and users must reload their Facebook-based wallets from external sources.

Speaking with CoinDesk, lead developer Alejandro Caballero said that there are still some kinks to be worked out in the tipping system. Most notably, tipping is not enabled site-wide, and is currently relegated to use within Facebook groups.

Tipping through the apps work from Facebook Groups, but once you joined one of them, you can send tips to every person existing in Facebook, from your friends list or not. We add groups on request. This way of working is the reason the apps where approved, because they promote social interaction without messing with user’s preferences or security.”

The report also noted that Caballero’s team is currently working on a universal tipping platform that would be compatible with popular website software like WordPress, Drupal, Joomla and PHPBB.
