European tech awards show The Europas adds digital currency category

Starting this year, virtual currency startups will finally have their own category in the annual Europas award show. Since 2009, the event has celebrated developments in technology and innovation, giving a rare opportunity for recognition for European programmers and tech entrepreneurs. Although the awards generally focus on Europe, in recent years prizes have also gone to projects and startups in the Middle East and Africa.

Speaking with CoinDesk, founder Mike Butcher explained the addition of the new category.

The award ceremony will take place on June 10 in London. Nominations for the awards are open to the public, and open until April 11. This year’s judges include The Guardian‘s Jemima Kiss, investor Ben Holmes and startup accelerator CEO Alice Zagury.
